A total of 21 women leaders from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao participated in the Basic Empowering Dispute Resolution Management Process (EDRMP) Training under the Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace in the BARMM (Canada-WPS), joint programme of UNDP, in partnership with the Mediators Network for Sustainable Peace, Inc. (MedNet), held at Davao City, from May 15 to 19.
During the training, Ms. Jazelle Anne Lim of UNDP explained that the Women Insider Mediators-Rapid Action Mobilization Platform (WIM-RAMP) is all about community-based women, community leaders and mediators working together in advocating and strengthening peace in BARMM.
Dr. Judith de Guzman, also of UNDP, noted that peace cannot be achieved without women. She shared that this program is not only to train, but also to provide a platform to showcase the stories of the women leaders on how to address conflict in their local community. She expressed that the training discussion is rich because of the stories being shared by the participants.
Dr. De Guzman reiterated that UNDP and MedNet’s role is to facilitate the learning from these training sessions; however, mediation work in the communities will be driven by the women leaders. She assured the participants that UNDP is one with the peacebuilding initiative in Bangsamoro.
