Service Description

Objectives: 1. Differentiate between mediation and other conflict intervention approaches; 2. Differentiate between the three mediation approaches; 3. Demonstrate skills on interest-based mediation, narrative mediation, and harmony mediation; and, 4. Reflect on the qualities, tasks, and ethical dilemmas that mediators face. MODULE 1: INTEREST-BASED NEGOTIATION MODULE 2: MEDIATION MODULE 3: INTEREST-BASED MEDIATION MODULE 4: NARRATIVE MEDIATION MODULE 5: HARMONY-BASED MEDIATION This course consists of five Modules, conducted over 32 hours (4 days). This course is intended for training participants who have at least completed Course 1 (Course 2 are for conflict assessors and experienced mediators). The first Module focuses on Interest-Based Negotiation. The second defines Mediation, contrasting it with Arbitration, and provides an overview of mediation approaches. The third up to fifth modules zero- in on the different mediation approaches, the techniques in those approaches, mediation skills, and a reflection session on a number of mediation issues and areas of concern.
